Question User configurable menu page using graphics as buttons

Hi folks, I'm working on a little project which is to be used on an old Android 1.3 tablet. Unfortunately upgrading to a newer version of Android or tablet isn't an option at the moment so HTML and Javascript seems to be the only way to go for now, and as I'm fairly new to Javascripting, this limits me to what I can do at the moment.

Anyway, the project would entail a menu screen which would display a certain number of images, which would obviously act as button, and another page offering a list of images which the user would click on to configure the menu on the first page to display the buttons, and therefore the links, that they want to be available. The configuration would need to be saved until such times as the user decides to change the menu to something different.

I guess what I'm asking is, is it possible for the user's selection to be saved to a re-writable file within the directory which the menu page would look to for the menu configuration, and if so, how would I go about doing that.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Lightbulb

JS is not able to save files to the internet or your local computer without the use of some auxillary programs like PHP, PERL, etc.

If I understand your requirements, you would not need to save any information to files, only to the local device you are using.
This could be accomplished using 'cookies' or, if the browser can handle HTML5, localstorage.

Discussions about the pros and cons of each method abound on the internet using a Google search or look into this forum using the 'search' function.

You should provide some code about which further discussions could be referenced.
    Good Luck!

You know, the use of cookies had crossed my mind before I visited this site, so I don't know why I didn't think of that before I wrote my earlier post. As for HTML5, I seriously doubt this tablet could handle that, it's a fairly old device after all. It can't use PHP or Flash, so I think HTML5 is out of the question.

Right now, there isn't any code being used as it is a simple html file with img and href tags for the most part.

Also I did search the site before I posted my request, though I may have simply missed or overlooked the information I was looking for. Like you suggested, I'll go search again. Thanks for the speedy reply.
