Question I don't get cookie functions

I'm not getting the whole cookie setting function concept. It would be great if someone post a good cookie setting system and explain clearly in detail exactly how each section in the cookie works, like how to define data to be stored and most of all actually getting the function to store the cookie.

I'll be back Monday to see if I get any help, thanks in advance.

I'm still not getting it, I just need to be able to actually save a cookie, then I could figure out the variations from there, I am working from the http://localhost/ domain, and would like the name of the cookie be "cookie_name", and the value to be "cookie_value". could somebody write the simpleest funtion they know of to save this cookie that will definately work when added to one of my pages.

I have attached a file that I was using when I wanted to try an figure out how cookies worked.

You can set, get, and delete a cookie

    See if this helps.

The area where I am still puzzled is with the cookie path because I get different results depending where the file is that creates the cookie
