    Gift Vouchers

    Hi
Does anyone know of a javascript or something(not php as I don't know how to use them) that i can use to create gift vouchers on my web page where someone can input the name of the person it is from the amount and the person it is to, they then click submit or something, the information appears in the gift voucher then they print it out.

    Thank you

Well, that's all simple enough. But then how do *YOU* collect any money for the voucher????

You need something server-side to do that. Which means PHP or JSP or ASP or ASP.NET or...

Hmmm. What about paying for the voucher? Also is there not some faint possibility of, well, er, how shall I put it?, fraud taking place? You will have to use server-side scripting to get anywhere at all with this.

How will the vouchers be redeemed? I suspect that customers may well baulk at paying out money to buy a voucher from anything other than a totally reputable source. What if you, er, are, as it were, unable to redeem the vouchers?

Philip means how do you *PREVENT* fraud from occurring?? How hard is it for somebody to create one legitimate voucher and then clone it into 50 more? HINT: It may be all too easy.

Unless you plan on manually checking each voucher as it is used, you *NEED* a server-side system. One that will, for example, generate unique voucher numbers (e.g., a secret system that encodes the amount and the date) and store them, along with all the purchase info (who purchased, who it was made out to, etc.), into a database. Then when one is redeemed, the system can validate the number and name and amount against the database. (Without that, you'll have to record all the information by hand somewhere and manually check each one as it's redeemed.)

Trying to do this "on the cheap" will likely be much much more trouble than you think.

    Hi

The site has been registered with barclays bank and they know that I am putting vouchers on the site. They will collect the money etc. All i need to know is how to make the vouchers in the first place so I can then contact the bank and they will do the rest.

*sigh* Okay...I still think you are inviting work for yourself, but...

First question: How are your HTML skills?

Can YOU create a nice looking voucher in HTML? Using CSS, et al?

It's okay to just put the name and amount and voucher number in as simple text for now, to be replaced by JS code later. But I, for one, don't have the best design skills in the world and I'd rather you be responsible for producing the HTML. (Besides, that way if it looks ugly it's your fault. <grin/>)

Show us your HTML for a voucher and we can help you "fill in the fields" from JS code.
