Disable "onmouseover" after it's been triggered

I have an image that has an onmouseover event. Is there a way to disable the onmouseover until the event has finished?

One approach is to use a global variable to indicate the state of the event. For example..if it is equal to 1, the event is in process and if it is equal to 0, the event has not started...or has finished processing.

a second approach is to remove the event handler from the image/button/link. A good idea is to also change the style of the image/link/button to indicate that some sort of processing is going on in the back ground...or the button/image/link is disabled until the event is completed.

    Cheers,
