    jQuery breaks in IE

I am using jQuery for my image gallery here: http://santahustle.com/image-gallery/. The gallery functions fine in most browsers, but I am having trouble with IE9 and Safari from a Mac computer. In both browsers, the gallery doesn't even function.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing in IE:

I've been looking and playing with the code for a few days now and I can't get it to work in these two browsers. Can someone take a look at the code, it's possible I'm missing something that's completely obvious.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

You have a number of errors in your HTML which will cause problems in some browsers (if not all!).

required attribute "alt" not specified will not impact the display of your page - I would regard this as "good advice" rather than an error. But you appear to have a few blank lines before your DOCTYPE declaration - it should be the very first line of the HTML.

And data-* attributes are only available with an HTML5 document declaration.

Still, you've got four months to fix it, ho, ho!!
