    Communication between web servers

    Application1 is running on web server1 and Application2 is running on web server2. How one can establish a communication between 2 servers through java?

    What is the purpose of the connection? At first thought you could set up a socket connection between them.

    I am not using a socket programming as such. Its very basic model of 2 tier architecture using JSP/servlets. What do you mean by proxy server?

    is it possible to expose the functionality of one of the applications as a webservice and consume this webservice from the other application?
