    Please explain me why I see in some of url addresses next:
    www.XXX.com/dir/?=query
    what is '?=query'

    sure you dont mean: "www.example.com/dir/?variable=value" ?

    inside the folder "dir" is an index.php, index.asp, or some other server side page that the variable is being passed to... it is exactly the same as:

    "www.example.com/dir/index.php?foo=bar" which you probably see more...

    it passes the variable "foo" to the page with the value set at "bar"... (clear as mud... i know)...
