    how do i create a layout table?

    ok, i am putting a table inside a table, but i cant get it to go where i want it to. so i figured if i did a layout table, like in dreamweaver, i would be able to place it where i want. here is the disaster i have made so far. i want to make the top of the table with the video in it aligned with the top and going to the bottom. that probably sounds confusing so ill say it a different way too. i want to make the video so that it is to the right of the div command/blog, and parallel with it. Please help. Thank you.

    *edit* now that i think of it, i think i will be needing to do this with the links that SHOULD be at the bottom too. also, please excuse the looks of the site, it is under alot of photoshop and html construction right now. *end edit*

    Why do you need embedded tables for this? Just make a four row, five column table:

    Code:
    <table>
    <tr>
      <td colspan="5">EMPTY TOP</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td>EMPTY LEFT</td>
      <td>BLOG DIV (B)</td>
      <td>EMPTY MIDDLE</td>
      <td>VIDEO (V)</td>
      <td>EMPTY RIGHT</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td colspan="5">EMPTY BOTTOM</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td colspan="5">NAVIGATION LINKS (N)</td>
    </tr>
    </table>

    Concept:
    |ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ|
    |ŻŻŻ|ŻBŻ|ŻŻŻ|ŻVŻ|ŻŻ|
    |ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ|
    |ŻŻŻŻŻNŻNŻNŻNŻŻŻŻŻŻ|
     ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ

    because i am using an image map and this would mean that the actual image/background will appear in one cell while the rest of the information will be in cells next to and below it.

    This would be easy without the tables. Why are you using tables at all?

    You should be able to still use an image map though. Also I find it odd that your image mappings are rectangular instead of polygonal based on the positions of the text to be mapped. I didn't see them before since the video was on top.

    I find that the code would be a lot less convoluted, that is more efficient, and more technically correct without the tables but you can hardly say that float and clear would be "easier". Personally I think that the table design here is a no-brainer and am wondering what's so hard about it.

    Tables for layout are WAY more complicated that using CSS. With tables you have to plan the whole thing out in advance and work out which elements need to span which column and row combinations. With CSS you just add all of the elements for the first row of the content followed by the elements for the second row etc and can check the appearance of the pieces as you go rather than having to set up the whole table before you can see anything.
