    Unhappy Help in setting a favicon (.ico) file

    Hi all...

    Have uploaded a few test pages trying to set 2 things on it... a simple bookmarking button and my 'own' favicon icon. Here is the site I now believe has both working... at least in IE6 and Mozilla... as I appreciate that N/S4 and N/S6 still doesnt support eirther, at least by the 2 or 3 different codes I've seen used.

    I am still not confident I have either code right yet, as it seems to take alot of bookmarking and refreshing to set the icon to show both in the favs list and also up in the url slot.

    I tried looking at the source code for this forum, knowing it has its own favicon, but can't see anywhere there is script to set it... unless its included in some script that isnt javascript/html, coz those are still pretty much foreign to me.

    Would you guys and gals please like to check both my test site and the code hereunder?

    <title>#1-Heyyy lookee here!! My very own 'KB' lil icon!! Wooohooo!</title>
    <link REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://home.graffiti.net/kbs_great_aussie_sites/kb.ico">
    </head>
    <body>

    <br>&nbsp;
    <br>&nbsp;
    <center>
    <p><p>
    <span STYLE='color:blue;cursor:hand;'onClick='window.external.AddFavorite(location.href, document.title);'><img SRC="bkmk.jpg" height=25 width=85>
    <p></center>

    </body>
    </html>

    I have tried loading my kb.ico file in both the prime folder /kbs_great_aussie_sites/ and a sub directory /icon/ with similar 'sticky' results

    Appreciate any help this newbie can get

    Thanks Matey... possibly my error in not explaining myself better...

    I finally got it to set but after much 'toing and froing...' I am after expert advice on whether my choice of codes and/or the way I've scripted them are the most suitable for achieving my two aims... ie. setting a favicon AND bookmarking using a button link.

    Thanks for responding though, my friend

    Cheers

    ^KoalaBear^,
    <link REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://home.graffiti.net/kbs_great_aussie_sites/kb.ico">
    ..is a perfect way to link to your .ico.

    I don't know about the bookmarking script, I never used a bookmark button and never clicked on one before. This one throws an 'object expected' error, but since I'm on a Mac, well, 'expected' is the right word

    Wait a minute ^KoalaBear^..
    I just rembered that before I made favicons and there were no links to them on pages I made, IE browsers did request for a favicon.ico. I could see that in my error log. Like it is sort of default behaviour when making a bookmark. So maybe, just guessing here, giving the favicon (FAVorite ICON) another name causes your trouble with it? A lot of bookmarking and refreshing? Try naming it favicon.ico instead of kb.ico?

    Smile Hi MCookie

    Yes, thanks MCookie... I have done that and it seems to work better but it also seems I still need to include the 'SHORTCUT' code in the head. I wonder as favicons were specifically introduced for IE5.0, whether the problem is with IE6+ and not so much with what I'm doing. I'll be interested to see how Double T gets on from scratch... see other thread this board.

    I gave him this tut I found earlier:
    http://www.htmlgoodies.com/tutors/favicon.html#icon

    Thanks for your contribution MCookie... much appreciated.

    Cheers!
