    Latest Netscape won't play basic sound files. Why?

    Hi. For some reason this simple javascript (which works fine on all other browsers) will not work on the latest version of Netscape that I downloaded. Any ideas why? Any help is much appreciated.

    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript><!--

    if ( navigator.appName == 'Netscape' ) {
    document.write( '<embed src = "soundeffect.aiff" autostart="true" hidden="true" loop="true"></embed>' );
    } else if ( navigator.appName == 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' ) {
    document.write( '<bgsound src = "soundeffect.aiff" loop="-1">' );
    } else document.write( '<bgsound src = "soundeffect.aiff" loop="-1"><embed src = "soundeffect.aiff" autostart="true" hidden="true" loop="true" ></embed>' );

    //--></SCRIPT>

    You cross posted, thats against the forum rules expect this thread to be deleted soon. I've already told you what you had to do. If you converted to an mp3 it would work fine but if you used flash to play the sound like for a mouseover or something then it would ensure compatability. Cross posting isn't going to get you help any faster. What happens if the browser isn't netscape or IE? You got opera, and a lot of other browsers.

    Netscape sound problem

    Actually I didn't find your ideas very helpful, so feel free not to respond to my posts. If there's a rule about cross posting that's fine, but solving the problem should be the main focus. Thanks.
