    Exclamation Help please!!

On my site, I have a frame that displays an external html document, a different one for each day of the week. That all works fine, but since I have a free account, there are banner ads inside the frame, and it gets in the way. What I would like to know is how to make the page come up scrolled down below the banners by default so that they are not seen. I would like to know how to do this, or if you know of a better way, which you probably do, please let me know. My site is here if you need to see it.

    Hi there, Magical Chair,

Please take a moment or two to consider Coding Forum's Rules and Posting Guidelines. Pay extra attention to the parts that ask you to a) not ask how to circumvent the ads on your free host, and b) post an appropriate title to your thread. Thanks.

    Sincerely,

    Prise,

You are absolutely right. For a second I thought we were supposed to follow the rules we were asked to read. My bad.

Yeah, why don't you do that and then for giggles we can sit here and bet on how long it will take Free Servers to take down: http://www.magicalchair.s5.com

    I'll start: 3 days

Prise, you may not have caught rmedek's sarcasm, but it was definitely there; the rules and posting guidelines here are enforced. There are plenty of reasons, not the least of them being maintaining CF's legitimacy as a web development community.

You get what you pay for, and not trying to circumvent advertisements is mutually beneficial to both you and your web host. It's beneficial to you because your free host reserves the right to take your site offline at any time for a violation of their TOS (or any reason really), and it's beneficial to your host because they can potentially get something back from the bandwidth and space they're giving you for free.

    Sss

    How's that for a title?

Instead of using frames for displaying external content, employing some server side scripting would enable the same effect while generating regular, run-of-the-mill web pages. Of course, that would require a host that supports a server side scripting language (nowadays, PHP is pretty common), and as always, you get what you pay for. Which in your case is: nothing.

    Being helpful

they got a problem and this forum is to help people with problem
"Being helpful" does not just encompass giving cut-n-paste solutions for every problem; sometimes a little education is in order.

When an easy solution to a problem can be given but an alternative approach may yield better results, it's usually best to give the solution, followed by an advise for the alternative. When however the problem is caused by the approach, an advise for a better one may be the only really helpful response.

In this case, the poster's request for circumventing the host's banners is likely in violation of the agreement that the poster, wittingly or not, has with the host, which can only be replied to with discouraging such an attempt. Which Richard did.
    Regards,
    Ronald.

could a mod lock this thread?

    Dan
PHP Tip: If you want to use short tags (<? or <?=$var) then make sure short_open_tag is set to "1". It really helps.

Don't forget to save everyone time and mark your thread as Resolved :)

"Also note that it is your responsibility to die() if necessary."

    DON'T USE THE MYSQL_ EXTENSION
