    silently send a form

ok heres what i want to do,

i want to make a page that will let users filll in info, so i decided to use a form, problem is when they click submit i want the page to be emaild to me silently instead of asking the user to send the info via email themselves using their own software,

is it possible to do this without much user intervention or am i barking up the wrong tree altogether,

please point me in the right direction,

    thanks

    Noisy forms?

What do you mean by "silently"? If you want to hide the fact that a form is submitted to the user, forget about it.
If however you don't want to have the user use a mail client to send you an email, you'll have to find a way to process the form. This can be accomplished with server side scripting; it's relatively easy to make a simple form handler that echoes a "thank you" page or something along those lines back to the user while in the mean time sending you an email using mail software on the server.
There are turnkey solutions for this available from a number of sources; try googling for "form handler" or "form processing" or something like that.

Please let us know which direction you have in mind, and if you want to develop a form handler of your own, so we can help you further with finding the right resources.

yes that is exactly what i had in mind but dont know where to begin implementing the idea, i heard ASP is a good one to use but i would prefer to use something like perl or something a little more documented, if you have any more ideas please let me know, in the meantime i will do some more searching

    CGI, Perl, ASP, PHP, JSP

No, there's no need for saving the form contents in a separate file: you can read the form and use its contents to create and send an email to a designated address, and return a "thank you" page to the submitter all in one go. Most server side languages are equipped with functions to do all this.

Where to start and how to tackle such a task depends on what languages are made available by the hosting provider you have in mind; ready-made or easily adoptable scripts are available from many sources in almost all of the popular script languages.

Nowadays, PHP is very popular because it's powerful, open source (so free), made available by a great number of hosting providers, and well documented at php.net. Also, there are tons of PHP scripts available for free at various resources.
