    Web-page beginner problem

    Hi there, i'm new to computers (had a PC for four months now) and have an angelfire account where i'm trying to set up a fiction site. I've learned a few things about HTML but am having a problem making the layout i need with tables. I know that some of you will say avoid tables when designing a layout but i haven't the first clue about CSS and am almost there with what i need for now.

    Honestly as soon as i learn how to use CSS and get a better understanding of HTML etc, i'll be changing the thing completely, but for now i've got a problem with the layout i'm having, (only one problem left! ) i've got three sets of link tables on either side of the page but i just copied and pasted the design and can't make the middle table into one. (for text)

    Here's the link below, if anyone can tell me or show me what i need to do to link the middle table into one but at the same time keep the six link tables on either side seperated, i'll be really grateful.

    Table-a-gogo

    Eeeehhmm... let's see...

    So: you've got three seperate tables, each with three cells. You want to join the three center cells up into one.
    I think you should convert the three tables into one, with three rows; the first row with three cells, and rowspan="3" on the second cell, and two cells (the link cells) in both subsequent rows.
    I'll leave the spacing and the padding to you, bu that should give you the desired result.

    Oh, and stuff like:
    Code:
    <center>
    <h1>Fiction page</h1></center>
    should be in the head section, and you have two body elements (there should be only one).
    Regards,
    Ronald.

    ... and, umm, here's one I did earlier. Saved you some coding didn't it?

    Like above says; one table, center TD spans 3 rows. I closed off the containing table as well (ALWAYS indent your code, you'll have a hell of a time otherwise) and sorted out some other minor errors.

    Code:
    <BODY BGCOLOR=#000000 LEFTMARGIN=0 TOPMARGIN=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0>

    <table align="center" width="700">
    	<tr>
    		<td align="center">
    			<TABLE BORDER=0 CELLPADDING=0 CELLSPACING=0 ALIGN="CENTER" CLASS="OUTLINE" STYLE="border: 1 solid #9900ff;" background="copy_of_025.jpg">
    				<TR>
    					<TD WIDTH=700 HEIGHT=230 BORDER=0></TD>
    				</TR>
    			</TABLE>
    			<br>
    			<table width="705" valign="top" class="outline">

    Thats brilliant thanks to the both of you, i'm almost there now but just two more little things : How do i get text to be centered in the image at the top, and is there any way of having spaces inbetween the tables on either side that are about 0.5cm each? It's fine that they touch the middle table but i wanted 0.5cm gaps between the links tables if thats possible. (lol sorry i can't say what the spaces would be in pixels.)
