    Right column does not extend all the way down to the footer & empty space on subpage

    Dear all,
    I have two problems with my website:

    1. The right column (dark grey) does not extend all the way down to the footer.
    I tried to:
    a. wrap the content and right column and apply a clear fix but it is not working.
    b. apply an overflow: hidden. I tried this in the #container but then the right column went too far down and covered the footer.
    c. create a basic clear class and add an empty div with that class after my content div, but it did not work.

    2. On the subpage "My Research", I have empty space between the book and the text underneath it. If I use #bookText with a top:-700px; it will eliminate the space but then add the extra space underneath the text.
    Maybe it has something to do with the speech bubbles?!

    Any insight on how I could solve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for looking at my code!

    Hello pkempf,
    For your column issue, make your CSS look like this once and see what you think:

    #container {
        background-color: #ccc;
        margin: 0 auto;
        text-align: left;
        width: 955px;
    #content {
        background: #E6E6E6;
        float: left;
        margin-left: 0;
        margin-top: 0;
        padding: 0 0 0 50px;
        width: 600px;
    Another example of that can be seen here. You can study the CSS to see where the background color of the two columns comes from.

    Your second issue, the huge gap between your image and your text, is caused by relatively positioning those p classes from the bottom. Instead, try making containing #aboutUs relative and absolute positioning those p classes from the top...something like this -
    #aboutUs {
        float: left;
        padding-bottom: 15px;
        position: relative;
    p.speech_Garcia {
        background-color: #FFFFFF;
        border: 5px solid #666666;
        border-radius: 30px;
        bottom: 750px;
        box-shadow: 2px 2px 4px #888888;
        font-family: "Palatino Linotype","Book Antiqua",Palatino,serif;
        height: 100px;
        left: 410px;
        line-height: 25px;
        padding: 10px 0 0;
    /*position: relative;
    bottom: 750px;*/
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;    text-align: center;
        width: 200px;
    See a quick tutorial on positioning here.

    Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
    Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad
