    Absolute positioning and 'shrink wrapping'

While trying to solve kraftomatic's problem, I came across something that I couldn't see defined in the CSS spec anywhere. With IE6 and Moz FB 0.7, Absolutely positioned elements seem to only take up as much width as is necessary, 'shrink wrapping'. I looked in the CSS spec for this sort of thing, but I couldn't find anything on width.

Is this a bug, have I misunderstood something, or just missed something?

Since I had gone through a few different problems, I started a new thread explaining the latest, which is a bit more clear:

    Relative Positioning/BG Color in NS

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
