    "Showing" images can be done with HTML or CSS. It all depends on what you're trying to do.

    Either way, adding images is basic. If you don't know how to do that, then I think you should study HTML/CSS more extensively. Otherwise, you're bound to run into more and more problems, and you're just going to continue to do patch jobs rather than laying a proper foundation.

    Strange code really adding images is basic but I seem to have to add it in css and not in the pages

    I tried using content without the before/after and got nothing. Guess they are related.
    This will work. Play with it.
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Title of the document</title>
    <style type="text/css">
    .image:before {
       content:url("images/1.jpg");
    }
    .love:after {
       content:url("images/2.jpg");
    }
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div class="image"></div>
    <div class="love"></div>
    </body>
    </html>
    Only other way is background-image: and you should know that one.
