IE8 css: no background image, or float:right

This website uses a child theme of Twenty Twelve, and displays fine in Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer 10.

However, in Internet Explorer 8, it degrades:

<div id="site" class="page"> is not displaying its background image, and <h1 class="site-title"> is not floating right.

How do I get IE8 to display the background image, and float the h1 to the right?

It's not working because you wrapped those inside media queries, which IE8 doesn't support.

You can get them to display it correctly by applying it outside the media queries, which I think you should since you probably want the background image and float:right there by default.

Or, you can use some javascript like...
