Basically CSS is how you tell each different device how to display your pages in a way that fits that device.

As an example, use CSS to color your text and other elements, indicate the size of text and other elements, the thickness of lines, and so one. CSS is mainly used to style the elements of the page, while HTML contains the content of the page that the CSS styles.

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation semantics of a document written in a markup language.

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. This is an embedded or external page of code used to style HTML code.

I put it like this: HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) = Content, CSS = Style.

CSS and HTML go hand in hand (Often with JavaScript) and both are necessary to make a competent website. Here are some links for resources:

    Hope this helps.

There are lots of other sites far more up to date than w3schools - the two guys running that site are trying to cover so many different topics on their site they'd need to both work 50 hours a day in order to keep it up to date.
