    Nivo Slider

    Ahhhh I could cry

I am having a real nightmare all I want to do is incorporate the Nivo slider into the front page of a website I did for a friend to do a nice 3 image transition

The nivo slider is free to download here and I like the different effects:

    http://nivo.dev7studios.com/pricing/

When I incorporate it the html / script and css it throws a wobbly and just either doesn't show up at all or I can't align it and the css styles in the nivo slider override all the current css styles

I don't want the navigation buttons either just in the place where the still image is now on front page I want it to do a 3 image transistion. I think cause my divs are a bit unorganised it doesn't like it I tried putting it in a div in the content2 div and it didn't like it at all.

Could any kind soul give me any tips??

Here is the website I've put together and I am not making any money on this either due to the nature of the business and it doing a lot for charity:

    http://vicarscafebistro.co.uk/

So I put the styles in the head, script in the body, div in the content and made sure links to all scripts and styles worked still no working (not uploaded that version)

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

There is a css style sheet for the nivo slider, to edit appearances your need to edit the style sheet nivo-slider.css

What I would recommend doing is getting the 3 pictures and inputting them into the demo.html.

Then you will have a working version. Then copy all the codes you need and paste it into the part of your website you need.

Here is a good video to help you out ....

    Good luck

Thanks but this is exactly what I did. I got it working perfectly in the demo, but when I copied it to my page it just did not work I could not even see it!!!

I think I messed the DIV tags up on my front page, how would it work within a DIV, within a DIV...

I made the front page in dreamweaver using a template and it was set at position relative, I then did a content and a content2 div myself to make it line up to the background. Within there I just have the text and image with no CSS positioning instructions, the image just causes the text to push to the right and it kind of works so I left it, but I think this is part of my problem.

Can I have floating divs within a position relative div, the whole thing confuses me and is that even best practice??!!!

Could someone please help me with a good practice structure for the front page and then I'll have another go at incorporating the NIVO slider

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Are you using IE and are you using the latest version?

I have managed to get it working with version 2. But with version 3 that has released very recently has a lot of complaints in the forum with it not working in IE... they are trying to fix the problems but for me... its a big FAIL/ AVOID.

Good luck, but maybe do what I'm doing and look for another slider that is a bit easier. One thing I didn't like was changing the "effect: random" - could cause problems... I changed it to fx: and a list of effects I wanted... and then it speeds up and acts weird... so I'm leaving it... and going to try... Skitter slider... looks just the same and hopefully will be easier.

Let me know how you get on... and also bear in mind Jquery questions maybe answered quicker if you put them in the Javascript section that covers Jquery.

    Hi,

Just a follow up, I have been on the phone for a little while, but in practically no time at all I have got the Skitter slider working.

    http://www.designbyben.co.uk/try%20skit.html

Only thing I need to work on now is the time the effects last. So glad I'm not wasting any more time on the Nivo slider.

OK final post then I am going to sleep on this and wait for an expert...

I got it to look ok in the browser but I think my CSS is messy to say the least I had to have a minus position on the text box div using position relative.. is this going to cause me to run into problems?

    Thanks in advance

    Good night all

    Cheers

Your site is looking good, In regards to the CSS, make a new style sheet and cut all the css out of your page and link to the CSS style sheet. Not sure about the problems your run into with the text box div situation?

I finally got round to using the Skitter slider on my site....
