    Links from UNIX to IIS

I've set the link up as file:///M|/folder/folder/file.xlsx Link doesn't work.

    I've also tried

    file:///M:\folder\folder\file.xlsx

    file:///M/folder/folder/file.xlsx

    file://M/folder/folder/file.xlsx

    None of these work.

    What am I doing wrong?

    I'm using IE8 and dreamweaver CS5 on a Windows 7 system.

Links from what to what, from where to where? Is there a web document where you placed that link? The document is where: locally? On a server?

Anyway, use relative addresses, not absolute

file:///M| is an internal address, on your computer. A server can not see your computer's architecture. To exchange information between servers, you need to specify the used protocol (usually HTTP), and the valid IP or URI of the servers.

    Like:

    http://22.222.222.222/folder/file.txt

    or

    http://www.mydomain.com/folder/file.txt

I don't understand. If it is internal, how can you launch the webpage from a server? You have only two possibilities:

    1. Your computer is an usual one: a client. To see an internal file from another internal file you can use an internal address

    2. Your have install a server (like, say APACHE, or IIS) on your computer. In this case you can not see the files outside the so called localhost.

Moreover, as far as I Know you can not launch two different servers (say, an Apache and an IIS) the same time, using the same port, unless you use a virtual machine.
