    questions on w3 validator tool

    questions relate to this page: /globalpetals.com/index_main.php

    1. i am trying to validate a page the source of which that shows up with firefox is composed of many different files. is there good way to pinpoint where each part of the code is coming from? maybe with firebug

    2. i see from this validator, "start tag was here" and it points to the beginning "<" for <img style="padding-bottom: 12px" src="./themes/Feelings-Green/footer_separator… what is the problem? can i not validly start a statement as <img ?

    3. the validator tells me selected="" should be set but i am not using "selected". it is pointing to id="" being blank it seems. is this error message really directed at "id" and not "selected?"http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.globalpetals.com%2Findex_main.php&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doct ype=Inline&group=0

    4. for <li><a href="<?php echo SITE_URL?>/contact_us.php" id="<?php echo $link_selected_index?>">Contact Us</a></li> i see validator pointing out id="<php ... as invalid, but it does not point out href"< as being so. why is this?

    5. Line 479, Column 48: end tag for "input" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified

    <input type="hidden" value="Y" name="featured">

    I do not see omittag="no" or something like it.

    6. Line 428, Column 1: start tag was here

    <br>

    I dont understand why there would be a complaint about <br>

    The red X shows the error and description.
    That next line has an i that I take to mean "information" as it adds to the description the error line gave you.
    Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
    Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

    Did you try removing the id?
    Code:
    <div class="coprigght_mid_3">
    Copyright@globalpetals.com  |  All rights Reserved  |<a href="http://globalpetals.com/terms_conditions.php">  Terms &amp; Conditions</a>

    </div>

    ...as you do on your <meta>, <link>, <input> and any other tags that you're "self-closing"

    No, the closest that you can get is by making sure you are using the verbose explanations.

    I think hawaiiwebdesign is just an ad spammer. He wants you to google his name.

    for XHTML & html5, <meta />, <link />, <input />, <br /> must "self close"

    Yes, the validator specifically tells you the /> is needed.
    Also, your <br/> would be wrong, <br /> is correct.
