Editing in Notepad (no good editing software) how to reference images

Im just getting into website design as a hobbie.

Im using notepad to save and then open in my browser.

The thing is I now want to experiment with CSS and layouts.

I have been trying to reference internal images (external images on the net are no probs)

    Say I have a file saved C drive\personal\adam\documents

And the file is called this is an example jpg

I have been using img src="personal/adam/documents/this_is_an_example.jpg

However the image isnt coming back.

    Can someone help me please.

    Thanks

you have to write the urls in reference to the web server's root folder, not the computer' root folder.

let's say your website is located at c:\intepub\wwwroot\

then put your image in c:\intepub\wwwroot\adam\documents

    or better yet, c:\intepub\wwwroot\images\adam\

    then you would use src="/images/adam/this_is_an_example.jpg"

    - side note - You migght want to think about moving to using edit pad pro or notepad++ for your editing. they both have syntax highlighting as well as other helpful features.
