    Text flowing between columns

    Text flowing between columns

    Hi all

This sounds obvious but I can't see how to do it or if it's even possible.
Is it possible to have text flow from one column to the next.

In this demo here I have two columns of text. If I was to add text to Column One how would it be possible to flow in Column Two.

The text does not flow from column one into column two, it is under the control of the programmer and he hard coded what was in each column. To do what you want would take some serious programming skills and in the end be a waste of time.

Lets just say it's design choice what the length of a column is and where the text breaks and flows into a separate column.

You can use CSS3 to code for multi-column layouts (see the W3C Candidate Recommendation and the CSS3.info page, but it's not ready for prime time yet, without IE or Opera (possibly Konqueror too, but I don't run Linux, so I can't check) supporting the properties.

There's a Javascript multi-column file which allows you to use multi-column layouts, but I'd hesitate to use it as your layout will break if a user has Javascript turned off.

If you're not confident with HTML, CSS and Javascript, I'd have to agree with Sunfighter. Remember, a web page is not like a newspaper or magazine - it's easier for users to scroll down as they need to see more text, rather than make them scroll up and down to read multiple columns.

If anyone asks my boss, this counts as work, okay?
