    Http/https post

    Hi,

Working on an eCommerce website and having touble with the call to bank servers to process the credit card transaction. I have got most of it working but cannot get a sucessful [test] transaction reply from the server. Unfortunately they have gone home for the weekend!

The instructions provided state to send the data via an HTTPS POST connection. I have done eCommerce sites before and understand that the S stands for secure and basically the difference between HTTP and HTTPS. The URL for the <FORM post attribute is https://www.... but does the HTTPS POST instruction mean that the page contating the form has to be a HTTPS page and not an HTTP page?

Is that the only change I have to make or are there other things I need to do? Where does the page go on the server? will there be a https directory? how does this work?

    Thanks

    Paul

about https directory: maping filesystem path and server path depend of server configuration and usualy that thing with directory is a SSI thing but SSI and SSL are two distinct animals. First is Server Side Include and have nothing to do with it in your problem.
Second about the differences between http and https, second is a encripted http connection. First send/recive message in clear, second encripted. There are differencess in enviroment variables and the way you track the connection.
is hard to get help on this subject on a forum, but usual mistake is to send a https request and to wait the answer on http. Once a ssl connection is started you need to use it untill is closed else you need to start it again.

    best regards
