            border:1px solid red;

    That would be your css for the color and background images.

    Try adding something like this to the top of your page inside your css <style> tag.

    Code:
    body {
    	background-image:url(http://www.mysite.com/myimage.jpg);
    	background-repeat:no-repeat
    	background-color:#000000;
    	margin-left:auto;
    	margin-right:auto;
    	margin-top:0px;
    }
    This will put up your back ground image and and make the rest of the background black. If you google html color codes you can find a huge list of colors to choose from.

    Hello RealDealSER,
    You already have an image as a background of your body. Are you able to reaplace it or is it need along with your new image? If you can replace it, just put your image where I've highlighted in red below (you may or may not want to keep that repeat property) -
    Code:
    *|* {
    margin:0pt;
    padding:0pt;
    }
    body {
    background: transparent url(background.gif) repeat-x center top;
    background-color:#0d1216;
    font-family:Georgia,"times new roman",serif;
    font-size:13px;
    color:#4f7288;
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    }
    p {
    line-height:1.5;
    padding-bottom:12px;
    }
    h1 {
    font-family:Georgia,"
    See the w3schools page on background.

    Thanks for the fast replies. i do want to keep the existing image and just overlay it with a picture on the left and right sides of the screen. should i design the image as a full screen image (favoring the left and right sides ) and just leave the background of the image transparent so the existing coloR is visible? thnx.

    It's kind of hard to answer that without seeing your images.
    It may be that nesting another div with your left/right border image centered and repeated on the y axis will work for you.

    I'm not sure at all what you're describing there...

    Code:
    *|* {
      margin:0pt;
      padding:0pt;
    }
    I've never seen that. Is that something you found or did you add that yourself? It's not valid CSS 2.1 so it's not likely to be the reset you were probably trying for.
    More typically that would look like this -
    Code:
    * {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    }
    Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
