Site Renders Correctly -- But For Six Pages on Firefox and Opera on Macs

    Hi everyone,

Quick disclaimer -- in order to re-create the errors I'm seeing you will need to be using either Firefox or Opera on a Mac. However, I'm open to all options!

I'm currently working with a site that has six (of about 50) pages that fail to render properly on Macs using either Firefox (3.6.3) or Opera (10.53) and have just about run out of ideas. I've tested the site and verified that it works on virtually any PC browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari) and two of the four major Mac browsers (Chrome and Safari). The code checks out in W3C validator and has the proper Doctypes, etc. Furthermore, the remaining 40-45 pages of the site also work fine in Firefox and Opera -- it's just those stubborn few. The site is biancopa.com, and the six affected pages are:

    1. http://www.biancopa.com/business/index.html
    2. http://www.biancopa.com/business/administrative.html
    3. http://www.biancopa.com/business/businessplanning.html
    4. http://www.biancopa.com/business/education.html
    5. http://www.biancopa.com/business/environmental.html
    6. http://www.biancopa.com/individuals/administrative.html

Even if you aren't using a Mac with Firefox or Opera, perhaps you've seen this before? When trying to access one of those pages in Firefox, the source code is displayed instead of the HTML and there is a white question mark inside a black diamond in-between each character in the code.

Clearly there is an issue here that I've missed somehow, but the coding in the site's pages are so similar and the problem so specific, that I need a few more sets of eyes.

Any questions and I'll happily give as much information as possible. And thanks a lot in advance, it's appreciated.

Have you tried re-uploading the pages, and can you copy and paste the source of one of the problem pages here?

Is there a chance a different editor might have been used to save the file or any other differences you can think of...?

It definitely seems like an encoding/charset problem at first glance.

FYI, it's broken on Firefox 3.6 on Windows XP, too.

The response headers look the same as an unbroken page. Have you already re-saved (confirming output format) and re-uploaded?

Just wanted to give an update and apologize for posting and then failing to respond. I hate it when newbies do that. I've been away for the last week and had anticipated having more internet access.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. @tomws, I hadn't seen that the pages were also broken on Firefox for Windows, so I appreciate the heads up.

@Scriptet, it seems like you were right. I had tried re-uploading the pages prior to posting here, but with no luck. I hadn't even thought of the fact that I used two different editors -- one on Windows at another office and Dreamweaver on my Mac. I'm not sure how much/little that affected things...

I was able to fix the problem simply by opening the code for each page, copy and pasting the entire code into a new file, renaming it and saving over the old file, and uploading again. Voila -- success. No editing whatsoever. Very odd to me, but at least it's been solved.

Again, I appreciate the help and for your quick responses! Cheers!
