    newbie question. page displaying html code. what's wrong?

    So I'm trying my first test html page and all I have written in it is :

    <html>
    <h1>test<h1/>
    </html>

    and that is what I see when I open it in firefox. Obviously I'm trying to have it display only "test". I made it from a word document(I also tested it with a txt file) and tried naming it with either a .html or .htm ext. So what is my obvious mistake? Thanks

    I think, your editor converted the < and > symbols to their equivalent html entities - &lt; and &gt; (you may confirm this by using the "view source" option in your browser ). Make use a good editor like notepad++ to practice html/css

    Hello,

    The reason for this is because you have no code referencing what image you want you background to display or color. Please visit the following sites to help you out:

    http://www.web-source.net/html_codes_chart.htm
