Question I need some more very puny Html Help

Ok back again to my forum.

I also added a log out button on the top of the page of my forum.

    But here is the problem:

See that it just moved my PM's a bit more and the log out button is on the same line.

I want the log out button just above the PM's:

    Example I made in paint:

You see how I want it?

    Now...

Here is the code I have inserted for the log out button to be there:

    <a href="http://excoboard.com/exco/index.php?boardid=25957&action=logout" target="_blank"><img src="http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv30/marzo999/th_LogOut.png" border="0" alt="Log Out"></a>

    <a href="pm.php?boardid={boardid}"><b>Private Messages</b></a>: You have <b>{newpm.newpms}</b> unread messages</span>

Since I just started messing around with html I just inserted the Log out button a paragraph above the html of the private messages.

Then it shows up like the 1st pic above

what should I have done right?

    Two options:

    1. Add <br /> after the closing </a> tag for the link of the logout button.
    2. Try adding float:left; to the style of the button and add clear:left; to the style of the <a> tag.

Option 1 is easiest, but depending on long-term goals option 2 might be best.

    It's usually a good idea to start out with this at the VERY TOP of your CSS: * {border:0;margin:0;padding:0;}

Thanks I'm going to go with option one since I hate CSS it's way to confusing

And html for me a da bomb.
