    i think you need to make a picture that's exactly one asterisk, and then use it as a background picture in cells surrounding your content.

    mind if i ask why it can't be an image? i'm pretty sure that's the only way to do it.

    Well, I want to send simple html in emails for my tell-a-friend and using images would severely complicate things (e.g. won't display in hotmail, aol, yahoo, etc).

    So, I'm going to use characters like /////// and ******* and ~~~~ for my table borders.

    well, i still thing you have to use images, but i know for a fact that both aol and hotmail accept images in their html mail, if that at all helps.

    Ok everyone, just for the laughs:

    Code:
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td colspan=3>*************************************************</td>
    <tr><td>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*</td>
    <td><table><tr><td>your table goes here</td></tr></table>
    <td align="right">*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*</td></tr>
    <td colspan=3>*************************************************</td>
    </table>
    Now that I provided you with the posible solution, can you tell me if you honestly believe that those asterisks around your message will make its content any more valuable

    Now, how do you get the ***'s to be evenly spaced around the table like in my first post?

    (How do you get an image to display embedded in AOL? I mean hot-linked like:
    <img src="http://host.com/me/image.gif"></img>? I can't seem to get it whcih is why I've defaulted to using characters in table borders.)

    Thanks

    You ARE some perfectionist
    .... try word-spacing for horizontal (or add & n b s p ; in-between the *)
    line-height for vertical

    i don't know, i've never personally done it, by i have an aol account, and i get HTML mail with pictures all the time there ( i use it to collect spam when i sign up for newsgroups, etc. ). next time i get one, i'll take a look at the source, and let you know. or forward it to you, if you like.

    I already tried the & n b s p ; which didn't work.

    How about an example on how to use the word-spacing and the line-height attributes?

    Thanks

    word-spacing: fixedamount;
    line-height: fixedamount|percentage;

    for the life of me, i don't know why word-spacing doesn't take percentages, but according the Guide, it doesn't. i'm thinking maybe they expect you to set it in ems, though i tend to set in pixels.

    Could somebody check this?
    I can't seem to get the inner nested table up to the top...The "Zoobie's Official Site" should be very close to the top***'s and it doesn't seem to be centering. Thanks

    <table bgcolor=black width=477px cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    <tr>
    <td colspan=3 align=left style='word-spacing: 6px' style='line-height: 37px'><font face=tahoma size=6 color=red>* * * * * * * * * * * * *</font></td>
    <tr valign='middle'><td style='line-height: 35px'><font face=tahoma size=6 color=red>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*</font></td>
    <td><table><tr><td><table align=center><tr><td><table bgcolor=#000000 align=center>
    <tr>
    <td align='center'><font face='times new roman' size=5 color=white><u>Zoobie's Official Site</font></u></td></tr>
    <tr><td><font face='times new roman' size=4 color=white>Hi <i>$friend!</i><br><br>
    <center>Your friend <i>$you</i> thought you'd like this site!<br>This is <u><i>hilarious</u>!</i><br>
    Click <a href='http://me.com'><i> here</a> !</i></font></center>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr><td><font face='times new roman' size=3 color=white><u>Sender comments</u>:<br><i>$comments</i></font></td></tr>
    </table></td></tr></table></td></tr></table>
    <td align="right" valign=middle style='line-height: 35px'><font face=tahoma size=6 color=red>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*<br>*</font></td></tr>
    <td colspan=3 align=left style='word-spacing: 6px' style='line-height: 30px'><font face=tahoma size=6 color=red>* * * * * * * * * * * * *</font></td>
    </table>
    Zoobie or not Zoobie...That is the problem.
