    Question Doubt about background image

Hi! I had a doubt. Main reason for using sliced images for background is to reduce the bandwidth or to show the page in larger screen resolutions or some other?(sorry, if the question is so ridiculous. I am just a beginner for web design and html/css)

The main reason for using sliced images for page backgrounds came out of the old way of using tables for layout. Since everything had to be positioned using table cells, the backgrounds of those table cells had to be set individually.

With CSS layouts, there's rarely a need for slicing up bg images, at least not to that extent. And the current wisdom is that fewer larger images is less overhead on the server than more smaller images.
