    Exe file in HTML

Is there a way to run an exe file from a HTML doc? I want people to be able to run it without downloading anything to their hard drive so data will be stored to the web domain and not to the user's computer. I don't care if they get asked for verification first, I just want my program to be able to run online from a HTML file, and I have no idea how to do the HTML code. They're both in the same folder, if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The EXE needs to exist on the visitors' computer in order for it to execute on his computer. Perhaps you should consider a Java applet, ActiveX component, or Flash application that would be embedded in a page.

Running a .exe from a HTML page would be ridiculously dangerous. That's probably why it's not possible.

No, you can’t run any file through HTTP without downloading it first. Even the images and multimedia objects you see are downloaded temporarily (a.k.a. „cached“) to your hard drive before they can be viewed/run.

However, there are so called online applications (like Google Docs & Spreadsheets) that are accessible online without installing it to your computer, and data that is inserted there is stored on their servers as well. If you write such a program you can do the same but it’s not possible through an EXE file (besides: EXE files aren’t executable on Apple computers anyway).

Sounds like you need a server side script. PHP, java server page and/or ASP using javascript or VB would be the way to go.

I tried googling this, and all that came up were malicious spyware programs. So im thinking that its not a good idea to run an exe from your html page.

Thanks for all your help. I've just asked the question in the Flash bit, so hopefully someone there will be able to help with the Flash coding.
