    HTML Layer over an embedded object, possible?

    Hello all,

    I have a Video object embedded in an html document through the <object> tag. However, I'd like to add an image over the video as a layer to indicate to users where the face of the person a picture is being taken off should be. I've been playing with the <layer> tag and no success. I have also use CSS to layer <div>'s but no success.

    Any help will be appreciated,

    grasshopper

    im not sure but try this

    Code:
    #videoContainer {
    width:size of video;
    height:size of video;
    .....
    z-index:1;
    }

    #pictureContainer {
    width:size of pic;
    height:size of pic;
    position:absolute;
    top:adjust to over video(90px);
    left:adjust to over video(90px);
    .....
    z-index:10;
    }
    see if that would work...

    jcdevelopment,

    Tried it, but the image shows up behind the Video object. The image is also below or underneath other object controls, like a drop down menu and a text area. Interesting behavior.

    Any other suggestions?

    Nope. The green object is the image file that I would like to put on top/above the Video object which is a white block. Look at the bottom right of the green image.

    Just did. I noticed most sites use the <embed /> tag. I am not embedding a file into the web page. Instead, I am creating a video object, using the <object /> tag, to feed video from a webcam into the web page. I need to place an image on top of the video to guide our users where the face of person should be on the screen for a good photo.

    Hope this help understand my situation.

    Without a link to see your code it is hard to say what the problem is.
    If your video is flash than flash will usually be the top layer of the page that is why the image continues to be behind it.
    You could add the image to the fla file at the start of the clip that way it would be part of the player. You need to use the embed and object tags together in order for the video to operate properly in all browsers. Not enough info here to help without guessing.

    Isn't this something like the flash satay technique?

    And no you don't. object alone is enough =P.
