Link to file on local drive

I have the following code to access a file on the hard drive but it doesn't seem to work. File/Folder exists. What is wrong with what I have here?

    Code:
    <li><a href="file:///C:/Engineering%20Apps/Tool%20Data%20Calc.xls" title="Mold Calc Tool">Mold Calculation Tool</a></li>
    Thank you

Thank you _Aerospace_Eng_. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work either. Could this be an IE7 issue?

Possibly, you never told us what browser it didn't work in. It works fine in Firefox.

I just tested my solution with a file on my hard drive and it works fine in both Firefox and IE7.

Sorry about that. Was an afterthought.

Interesting....it does absolutely nothing when selected. Works fine in other links where I'm accessing files on the server.

In an effort to see why this doesn't work, I entered the hyperlink into Microsoft Word and created an html file from it. That link does not work either. I'm guessing I can't access a file by clicking a link in a html file that is on a server?

What I am trying to do is access an excel file with some VBA that is used to perform calculations. Multiple users will be using this at various times so I can't just have the file residing on the server which is why I was trying to access it from the users hard drive. Maybe I will try to add some code to the excel file to do a saveas to the file when a user accesses it. That way the original is always (almost) available.

i believe you cant from a desktop, all you do is uplaoad it and link it to the right path. Such as a folder called xls. Then that will work.

I think I'm just going to do a save as to the file to the users local drive. Deleting any files in the directory (one created by me) with the same naming convention prior to doing so.

    Thank you
