    retrive file by time

    Hi all,
I hope that someone can help me here
I have been trying to create a script to display the latest picture captured from a server. I have permission to the server but cannot use php, and from what I have read that is the best way to do that. Is there any way to this? The server names the files by number but as soon as it reaches the cap, which is 6000 I think it will start over writing at one. All the files have a time date stamp on them so I thought that was my best bet. Note: these are .png files and I really don’t want to fill my website up with 6000 files to get this to work so I would really like to just pull the image to view on my website. And if possible make it clickable to the image directly of the server.
    Thanks in advance
    Mike

i think PHP or a server side language is the only way to do it. To Do this with PHP; you create a Recordset linking to the database that the image path is stored in and you set the recordset to order records by Date ascending. Then you put in a blank image holder in and put the image path to retrieve the date field and finally you put a repeat region around the image holder and set it 2 retrieve e.g. 4 records at a time. This is very simple to do if your using Dreamweaver.
Hope this helps :P if u want any code of how 2 do this jst ask :P

    thank you for your reply

If I am not mistaken the php file has to be on the server hosting the files???
If so there lies the problem I have permission to the use the pictures but not to upload a file to them.
The webpage is on a different server than the files i am trying to access/show
If it can be done with out uploading a file to the server then i would need to know how, I am not familiar with that.
    thank you

it is possible to retrieve the files and display them on your site with out putting the PHP file on their server, though I am not very good at this. Do you know if there is an RSS Feed or XML file on the site you looking to get the images off? If there is one containing the path to the images you could do it by reading the feed, otherwise you will have to develop a script you're self.

Well the website can do an rss feed but the server does not have anything just a directory with a ton of files in it.
