    Picture overlapping border in IE

    I have a picture that's appearing over the border of it's containing element in IE (7). I want to to have a negative top margin, but hide the negative part behind the border. It works fine in Firefox as long as i include overflow:hidden.

    HTML:
    <div class="top">
    <a href="index.html"><img src="home.png" alt="home"></a>
    </div>

    CSS:
    .top {
    width:inherited;
    padding:0 50px;
    border-top:3px solid #990000;
    overflow:hidden
    }
    .top a {
    display:block;
    margin-top:-3px;
    float:right
    }
    .top a:hover {
    margin-top:0
    }

    Thanks in advance.

    Apparently setting a height dimension for the containing element works. Who would've guessed?
