    windows media player help

    Hi all!

I tried embedding windows media player normally, to play videos on my site. It works on this computer (after i downloaded the rite codecs), but it doesent work on my other pc, nor mac.

Is there anything you guys know that i can get (maybe some sort of php thing, or some other code) to use windows media player, or something so that when i embedd it to the site, it works with no problems. I know sites that use windows media player, sometimes auto config for mac, or for other windows compyters.. I tried some flash things, but there all so confusing, and im not good at flash, so i get lost in it. If all else fails, maybe some suggestions of other ways to play videos on my site, so other users can view them that would be great.Thanks..

The issue is more likely not how you embed the files into the site, but the files themselves. If you say you needed to download the right codecs, then chances are other computers won't have them either, especially macs.

Are these your videos, or do you have the ability to encode them with a different codec/format?

Assuming you have the correct coding to embed the video, its probably not anything that PHP or any code can change.

    Hi
Well, i am using a .avi file for the movie. when i try a wmv it gets all weird on this other computer of mine in the house..its odd.. Im not sure what im doing yet, but what i found was this flash player that works very well in drupal. i was going to take the drupal page with the flash player working, and just make it a blank page witht the video playing, and ill add all my other stuff on it. So basically im just going to take the page and customize it, so i can have a flash player but not all the other drupal crap..how does this sound?

Flash player is a good route because its surveyed as the best overall option to show videos to others. Problem is: You will need to use a different format (.flv which is Flash Video). Use this to get some explanation and advice how to get video into Flash format.

I dont use Drupal, but that doesn't matter in the equation. What matters is you use a flash video player and format the video as .flv. That is my suggestion.

You can use a free converter from http://www.rivavx.de/ to convert avi to flv. I wouldn't put avi's on the web personally. File size usually way to big. You can embed a player using riva as well. The player is on another page than the converter, just look around the site.
Embeding flash is no harder than embedding wmv's and yes you should not need any special codecs.
Here's an embedded player made in flash 8 but again, just use the free player at riva. http://www.virtualwebvideo.com/players.html
jeremy check out the site and let me know what you think. I used some of your input here.

Right, encoding flash is relatively the same task as encoding .wmv. However if you happen to really want to use WMV, make sure the codec is widely found!

Some of this is off topic - but see PM.
