    site draws different in FF/IE

    hi, i am still learning the xhtml/css standards

    my problem is, my website is not the same on IE6 and FF
    on IE, my ID "menu" is delayed to the right
    on FF, my menu is alright, but you can see on the top of the site, there's a small ~10px space that should not be here.

    view it here : http://veksen.net/vexen/about3.html
    along with the css : http://veksen.net/vexen/style3.css

    if you guys could check my code, i know it is too complex and could probably be simplified, as you said to someone else in another thread, i think too much :]

    i'm using a XHTML 1.0 Strict Doctype, my code is fully valid at w3 :
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...%2Fabout3.html

    same with my css :
    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/v...usermedium=all

    i am sorry for my english, as it is my secondary language ;]

    I generally start out by removing margin and padding from everything like so:

    Code:
    * {
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
    }
    Then I add it back as necessary, keeping in mind that IE applies these differently from other browsers.

    However, in the case of your particular situation, you could zero out the left margin to get rid of IE's default:

    Code:
    #menu {
    	background-image:url(menu.jpg);
    	font-family:Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;
    	font-size:10pt;
    	height:21px;
    	position:relative;
    	top:137px;
    	list-style-type:none;
    	padding:6px 0px 0px 34px;
    	width:400px;
    	margin-left:0px;
    }
    Adding the line above should fix it.

    hi, thanks a lot, it was of a great help, i've uploaded it back, as you can see, it is fixed.

    now that everything has a 0 padding and margin, my list is not the same
    i've tried to use padding and margin : auto; on em, but it didnt help, what would be the best way to get em to default?

    also, you can see my content being float:right, i've set it to be width:374px; with a padding of 15px, but it doesnt fit anymore, i know i could simply use a width of 344px, but is there a way to have this margin INSIDE not decaling anything?
