    meta+charset+utf-8 troubles richtext editor in IE6

    Hello friends,

    I am not sure whether this is the right forum to ask about this as this richtext editor uses a lot of javascripts.

    I’m trying to use a richtext editor in my website and I got a copy from http://www.conceptuel.co.uk/conceptRTE/ and it seems to be very easy to customise

    Now I want to add a meta tag with
    Code:
    charset=utf-8
    the editor disappears in IE6
    The topmost part of the code is as

    PHP Code:
    echo "<html>";
    echo
    "<head>";
    echo
    "<title>ConceptRTE Demo - Rich Text Editor</title>";
    ...........
    when I changed like this

    PHP Code:
    echo "<html>";
    echo "<head>";
    echo "<title>ConceptRTE Demo - Rich Text Editor</title>";
    ?>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <?
    .............
    the problem shows and its detected only in IE6(perfect in IE7)
    Link to the original file is

    http://trials.casemumbai.com/trials/rte/noutf.php

    and to modified one is http://trials.casemumbai.com/trials/rte/addutf.php
    (Sorry to post the files as such without removing the description part and the modifiable php tags)

    I thought it might be due to the full-length php code which generates all the html and javascript, and replaced with its equivalents, but nothing happened

    The original zipfile(conceptRTE.zip) is also attached.

    Where I’m going wrong?
    Please help me…

    Thanks n regards
    art

    What are you planning to do with the rich textarea? Are you wanting for it to enter input? Where will the input go? A database? A new webpage? I ask this because I can recommend a better rich text editor.

    Thanks a lot _Aerospace_Eng_...

    The input will go to a mysql database. (taken the precautions to handle utf in my DB and pages)

    I just want to get an RTE which can generate standard html tags.

    I've been very pleased with the one found here http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...iwyg/index.htm
    It generates html tags using the appropiate styles to style the html. It can except copy and pasted input as well as input from a word document if necessary. Its very easy to setup as well. Only thing you need to have is an existing web page with a textarea. The javascript will convert the textarea and will also submit it to whatever script you desire.

    Thanks _Aerospace_Eng_,

    I checked the above one.

    The size property is handled by the
    Code:
    <font>
    tag (I believe so). But w3school says
    The font element was deprecated in HTML 4.01.
    .

    Can I customise the javascript as I want, in some small changes ?

    regards,

    art
