    White space at the top

    I have white space at the top of my home page. I have not that much &nbsp on my page and do not believe it is the problem. I am thinking that possibly it could be caused by Javascript, but I don't know. I am using Smarty. Here is the index.tpl

    [code]
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>A Russian Sweet</title>
    <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="russian bride, ukrainian bride, russian lady, russian woman, russian women, mail order bride, sexy russian girl ">
    <META NAME="description" CONTENT="Introductions of only beautiful Russian mail order brides. Our Russian Ladies and Ukrainian women want only love and marriage. Meet a sexy russian girl and make her a Russian bride that will love you.">
    <META NAME="author" CONTENT="Greg Ladner">

    From the code you provided I canít see any whitespace. However, I donít see any reference to a JavaScript and itís impossible to help you this way. It would be best if you provided a link to an online example so we can actually see whatís wrong.

    What I can tell youÖ well, you probably donít care at all as I donít expect a website with such a subject to be properly coded according to standards and accessibility guidelines but I feel that itís my civic duty to inform you that tables are not meant to be used for a page layout and you are missing a document type declaration at the very top of your document. I strongly encourage you to use semantic HTML for the structure and CSS to style your page.

    Edit: OK, a short search for the description text in your meta tag brought be to a site called russ!answ337z dot us (encrypted so SEs wonít pick it up - geeks will know what to do ) and it appears to be the site you are talking about. And it also appears (or is pretty obvious actually) that you have three empty paragraphs at the very top even before the HTML that donít belong there. Try to remove them an see what happens.

    fyi... you're name appears in the meta tags, don't know if you care, but I would if it was MY site....

    PHP Tip: If you want to use short tags (<? or <?=$var) then make sure short_open_tag is set to "1". It really helps.

    You have this:
    Code:
    <body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" link="#FF6633">
    Here you are trying to eliminate the default margins for the body element. But topmargin, leftmargin, and rightmargin are proprietary body element attributes introduced by Internet Explorer.

    Netscape instead used marginheight and marginwidth which are still understood by Firefox.

    Fortunately, you can now remove those attributes and just use styles:
    Code:
    body {
      margin: 0;
    }
