    Needing a Code to add to my website for blog-like features!

    Hello, I am a member of clan for a up-coming MMO and I am the webmaster. We would like to add a section on our forums where each member will have a login and will have their own pages to post information on their character, or write short stories of their adventures. It will be used as a journal of sorts.

    I could but I don'r know how to use wordpress or textpattern and how to set up priveldges for a user for a certain site. Sorry i am kinda new to this website creation business. Could you explain how to do it, or give me a link to a guide that tells me how to do it. Also are the programs you mentioned free, if not is there a good one that is free. Thanks so much for the answer.

    wordpress.org

    you can set it fairly easily. take s abit to make it look like what you already have. there is a huge help section and articles everywhere n the web for it. It's the only one Ive dealt with so far so that's all I can give. When you set it up, you can set privelages so certain users can do soe things but not others.

    worth looing into.

    It's php. if your using a forum i would *** it's probally php as well so at least you know your sever will run it.

    Wp

    I know there's a number of WordPress users around here (I am!), so you should be able to get some assistance with installing, customising, etc.
    I don't have any experience with other blogging packages, but WP has sofar met my needs and the ease of installing and upgrading never ceases to amaze me.

    As harbingerOTV already mentioned, there's a lot of information available online in the WP codex, and there's a lively community as well, with tons of mods available in every category.
    Regards,
    Ronald.

    <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define('DB_NAME', 'wordpress'); // The name of the database
    define('DB_USER', 'username'); // Your MySQL username
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password'); // ...and password
    define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value

    // You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
    $table_prefix = 'wp_'; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen language must be installed to wp-includes/languages.
    // For example, install de.mo to wp-includes/languages and set WPLANG to 'de'
    // to enable German language support.
    define ('WPLANG', '');

    /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

    define('ABSPATH', dirname(__FILE__).'/');
    require_once(ABSPATH.'wp-settings.php');
    ?>
    Ok could some one explain what to change, also what to change if I want to have it for more than one person. Also where do I put the webaddress for the page I want it on, cause our clan had a main page, then a few pages expalining us and our ranks, then each member has their own page; how do I set it so each member will have acces to their page and thiers only? Sorry I am new to all this coding stuff, I use a web program that does it all for me, all I have to do is design the template.

    Also is there more things to change?

    Users

    Where it says 'wordpress', 'username' and 'password' you'll have to supply the name of the MySQL database your WP tables are installed in, and the username and password required for accessing this database; you'll be given those by your hosting provider, and these are needed when for instance you want to access the MySQL database with a tool like PHPMySQLAdmin.

    You could have multiple installations, but that doesn't seem necessary; you as the admin can add users and assign what they're allowed to do and which pages they can access. All this can be set up through the administration pages.

    Look into Creating a static front page in the WordPress codex for information on how to set up WP if you don't want it to be the main body of the site.

    Ronald.
