    It works but not in IE

    I use Linux and am building a site for a local society. It is fine on my 2 Linux PCs using Konqueror, FireFox, Safari & Mozilla. It is also fine on my 3 Windows PCs using Firefox & Opera. But in IE6 on any PC the text in the middle column of three does not display. What is especially odd is that if I open another window and position it over the blank column, when I close it the column displays correctly. The XHTML & the CSS validate correctly on the W3C validation service.

    Here is the HTML for the template for the site pages:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

    Hello Wellinburgher,
    I don't have anything thats runing IE6 anymore...
    All I could see that was strange in your code was
    Code:
    #centreColumn {
    visible:true;
    I don't know what that is. There is a visibility attribute but the only values I could find are visible, hidden or collapse.
    Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
    Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

    It shows up fine for me in IE6 but then again I don't have all of your images which most of the time cause IE be buggy when displaying text. Try this for your
    #centreColumn div
    Code:
    #centreColumn {
    padding-left: 10px;
    background-color: #fdf8f2;
    color: black;
    margin: 0 240px 0 160px;
    font-family: verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;
    position:relative;
    }

    Update

    Thanks for the comments so far. There was a faulty line in the CSS which I have removed, but the problem remains.

    The page is up for test at www.techieinblack.info/webtest/template.html - so far I have tested it in Opera, Safari, Firefox, Konqueror, Mozilla running under WIndows and Linux and there is no problem. I've not tested it with earlier versions of IE, but in the one copy of IE7 I have access to it's fine.

    The page has a header, footer and 3 columns. With the central column only there is a problem. The problem is that the central column sometimes appears blank. If you open another window in front of it, then close that window, however much of the central column was obscured by the window appears correctly. The CSS and the HTML validate correctly.

    I have tested it on two of my employer's laptops: that used by myself and a colleague who we assume have identical business builds. On mine it exhibits the fault, on his it is perfect. On my home desktop, which is WinXP out of the box with automatic updates, the fault appears. On my wife's laptop, with WIndows preinstalled by the manufacturer, it's fine. Other friends report it working correctly.

    I am utterly flumoxed. Any help would be very much appreciated. The test page can be viewed at www.techieinblack.info/webtest/template.html - many thanks in advance for assistance.
