float a div over table cells??

Hello everyone -- first time poster here, long time fan.

I have been trying to figure out how to move a background-image relative to a table cell. The image must remain a background-image.

If you take a look at this URL: http://motomojo.com/help.shtml

you will see the black and white grungy flourishes on either side of the main content. I would like to move them 20px to the right, and left respectively so that the black/white stuff sits flush against the orange content area.

If I were to do that, it would mean the image would need to float over or under two table cells. Ie. not contained in either, but floating over their seam of them both. It seems like I could do this by relative positioning against one of the table cells??

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong??
