Need help working around imposed stylesheet to align content to top of cell

I am working on a website in which I cannot access the full stylesheet, but I can add my own css rules. The problem is that my content is forced into <td valign="middle">, while I actually want my content to vertically align to the top. I cannot alter the <td> alignment. I can only work around it by adding a css rule within the cell itself. If it was just text, then I could do that with a block css rule for vertical alignment: top. However, the content also includes images and tables, which prevents the block vertical alignment rule from working. Is there an alternative to just being stuck with the default <td valign="middle"> formatting?

I'd have thought vertical-align:top would work myself. Can you give a link to your page?
