Photoshop: top left of the image two grey boxes

At the top left of the image in Photoshop there are two grey boxes. One has a number in it and the other has a rectangular shaped icon.

    1. what are these for?

    2. if you are making a small image say, 25 x 25 these get in the way. Is it possible to get rid of them?

    Thanks.

Can you post a screen shot(picture). I do not understand what you mean. Which version of Photoshop? 6 or 7?

yeh - its the slice number, any image which doesnt have specified slices has by default 1 slice that is the size of the image.

out of interest: how did you turn that off?

    Cheers

Or you can go to View> Show/Hide > Slices. If there is a checkmark beside Slices you will see the number.

Yeah, ctrl+H will hide every extra on your document (grid, guidelines, selection outlines). I have found that using it too much can get kind of messy (i.e. pressing ctrl+h while you have something selected and then forgetting it is selected....).

Yikes, forums are almost too much fun.
