    alpha transparency in photoshop

My question is, how do you take out an image's alpha channel transparency in photoshop, so that it could be supported as a .png in IE

Well that depends on which version of IE you are talking about. IE6 and below do not support png file type. IE7, FF, Safari, Opera (later version) all support png's.

IE6 and below supports transparency on 8 bit pngs but then the image looks jaggy. There is no way to get IE6 to display the alpha transparency on 24 bit pngs using a graphics program alone. You would need to use the proprietary filters made by microsoft to get the alpha transparency to work.
