    Angry Frustration with Dreamweaver MX

    This thread has one sole purpose, to share my unbelievable frustration when concerned with Dreamweaver MX, which crashes 'Due to a fatal error', and terminates itself, without saving any changes automatically to the document.

    I had a great idea, and got so wound up, I only saved it once - when I first created a new document. Usually, I do save every few minutes, but Dreamweaver has now lost all of my work, which was done over the last few hours.

    Now, I opened it, and started again, but this time saving every few minutes, but Dreamweaver constantly encounters a fatal exception.

    I am only using Dreamweaver because the site is at wysiwyg design stage, and I am messing around with the different possibilities. I almost always use Homesite, which is like a text editor, and is worth more per mb than Dreamweaver, but it is significantly cheaper..

    I am annoyed as hell now...

    Aye, I used to have the exact problem as you when I worked for a dating agency. They had notepad taken off the systems, plus any other kind of text editing software, which forced me to use DW4 (I think it was 4). They wouldn't allow me to download some decent software

    After 8 months of frustration, and maybe hours of work lost a month, I left Prolly the best thing I ever did, as I walked out of there and got myself 3 freelancing contracts a few days after I quit

    IT has done it four times since I created this thread. I cant believe it.

    You can see the new semi completed design at: www.ionsurge.com/test

    Check it out whenever, and see if you can find any changes that I may have made.

    <feels like exploding with sheer rage and frustration!>

    By the way, it will not look as straight cut when I manage Dreamweaver to let me open my own files without telling me it has encountered a fatal error.

    IT IS NOT LETTING ME OPEN MY OWN FILE!!!

    I HATE HATE Dreamweaver! - I hate it!

    I think I will stoop down to using FrontPage... <sigh>

    TextPad baby! brothercake suggested that in some other thread... at first I liked it better than EditPad, UltraEdit, etc.

    Now I like it better than anything (and creating your own clip libraries and macros with it is insanely easy). No WYSIWYG, though.

    I hate to make any practical suggestions while people are busy comparing the size of their text editors , but have you tried any or all of the following, Ionsurge:

    * Uninstalling and reinstalling MX;
    * Checking the Macromedia website for possible patches; and/or
    * Contacting Macromedia's tech support?

    Just a thought.

    Are you sure it's not something else making it crash? I had a problem with MSN Messenger's "auto-update" service running in the background causing all kinds of programs to crash.

    Hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE and see what's running in your task manager...

    It is more of a visual design stage that I am at. That is the only reason to why I am not using Homesite, which is like EditPad, Crimson, etc.

    I will use Homesite when the visual part is over. The reasons to why I am somewhat persistant on using Dreamweaver is because the wysiwyg design stage that I am in is done a lot more quickly then it would be if I used something like Homesite.

    There are no patches for DWMX... but dw has for some reason now let me open up the files which is a bit of a plus ey?

    But it does crash every so often, but it usually does happen when I click on the File menu, and not as much while I am working on something.
