What do you want to host? A HTML site, a blog, a site using server side languages?

So you might find a free webhost without ads?

    Why?

You can have your own site with no ads, your own domain name,
all the features you need ... all for about $30 per year!
    That's what? ... about $2.50 per month.

There are others like that also. I just picked them because
I've used them before and was very satisfied with the service.

How can anyone afford NOT to have your own site and domain name.
Even if you use it for a year and abandon it, it's only $30 bucks!

If you don't want to pay for hosting by displaying ads then how do you propose to pay for the hosting? No one gives away hosting unless they have some way to profit by it such as the income from ads being higher than the cost of the hosting that they provide.

Host it yourself, all you need is the internet, and you can use open source software from there! (BTW: the domain name will cost extra).

    Host your self

Port forward 80 on your router ( to access your router 192.168.1.1 in IE or double click on the monitor icon in your system tray and look at the default gateway in support tab and then type that into IE) and install IIS already in the install list of windows XP pro and i think you can get the latest version from Microsoft website (not sure).

If you don't have a static ip try www.no-ip.com you can use the free version of that (just updates your dynamic ip every time it changes you also use no-ip domain names for free like www.mywebsite.myftp.com you get to pick from a big list).

If you can't install all of the php, mysql and apache stuff, I recommend VertigoServ: vertrigo.sourceforge.net.
