    Dreamweaver - Making the rows in a column equal

    Is there any feature within dreamweaver that allows the selected rows to be made equal. Right now Ive got a column of about 20 rows and they are all different widths. I would like them all to be equal. How can this be done?

    Tables?

    I assume you are talking about tables; if all rows are in one table and all table cells are in the same location in each row, they should by table nature all be of equal width.
    If you however created a new table for each row, it would be very hard indeed to make them all of equal width dependably.

    Could you somehow show how the markup ("code") looks like, preferably as a page online somewhere, or otherwise pasted in here using the CODE tags?
    Regards,
    Ronald.

    Here is the whole code for that section. Its actually a side navigation bar within another column of the main table.

    Code:
    <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
                <tr>
                  <td width="161" valign="top" class="style30"><div align="left" class="style54">Email</div></td>
                  <td width="10" valign="top">&nbsp;</td>
                </tr>
                <tr>

    Nothing wrong

    I tried the table in a test document separately and I see no reason why these the cells in each of these two columns would be anything but of equal width; of course I don't have access to the flash buttons (did anyone tell you what a bad idea that is?).

    Also, I can't tell what else is in the page outside of this table, nor do I know what styles are involved. If you could supply a link to the page in question online, you would make it a whole lot easier to help you out.
    Regards,
    Ronald.

    Ive uploaded the main template which will be used for all the pages, well most of them anyway:

    By the way, why is using the flash buttons a bad idea?

    Oh my god! HTML with MS Office!!
    I think the patient is dead. There's no help for you other than a rebirth of the website using current techniques of web development.

    You know, I can't even see what the problem is because everything seems to be messed up.
    At first if I test it in Firefox I don't see anything but the top and side navigation (no content or anything). And if I put a border around all tds (through CSS) I get a pretty clean visible result of the table(s) in Firefox (because there's no content that messes up the layout as in IE).

    I really think there is no fix for your problem other than a complete redesign.
    And flash buttons are a bad idea because they are inaccessible to users with other devices than a regular computer and only with a flash player installed. Not a good way to attract a wide audience.

    Browser lock-in, Flash

    I would seriously recommend not using any MS proprietary tricks that can not be interpreted by any other browser; this is the sort of vendor lock-in that locks out a substantial part of your potential audience and I don't think that's good business practice. At any rate, it is not good web design practice.

    In IE, the design sort of looks okay; it's the markup that drives tears to my eyes.

    Oh, and using Flash for buttons is overly complicated and a lot harder to maintain, yields larger-than-necessary files, and for simple colored text which changes color on rollover is utterly unnecessary. This can easily be accomplished with regular text and some CSS, which would make it a fraction of the file size and much easier to maintain.

    Ronald.

    I see, I will get rid of the flash buttons on the left side. Im not quite sure when you refer to MS Office. I havent been using it to create that page.

    There isnt supposed to be any other content on that page apart from the top navigational buttons and side navbar. Im not sure what you mean when you say its a bad design, or it needs to be re-done.

    Markup

    Have you looked at the markup, or HTML "code"? It's riddled with all sorts of MS specific xml like stuff, and tools for what looks like drawing rounded corner boxes. I haven't tried in any other browser than IE (which of course displays it fine), but judging by the comments from VIPStephan, a browser like Firefox, Opera or any other non-MS one will not be able to display this design even close to what you intended.
    I don't know where that's coming from, but I recommend finding solutions that work on more than just IE anyway.

    Since you appearently removed that test page there's no reference material left, but from a markup point of view that page was at least twice bigger and three times more complicated than needed; well-chosen, semantic markup and clever CSS styling could greatly reduce file size and speed up loading and rendering.

    Ronald.

    So from the point it is at now, how exactly will i be able to clean the codes up? By the way, im not really a coder or a professional web designer.

    Would running the built-in dreamweaver clean-up help?

    Wow... I've never tried the clean up function in Dreamweaver but I found a site with a lot of redundant MS Word stuff, copied/pasted it to DW and used the "Clean Up Word HTML" function, and it's great! I can recommend it.
    However, this can change the look of the page a little (due to differences in how the styling is applied) and you'll need to tweak it a little bit then. But all in all it's a really good feature.
    If you aren't a professional web developer you should still use Dreamweaver to create websites rather than any MS program (be it Office, Word, Frontpage, or whatever) as the latest version of DW does produce pretty clean code for a WYSIWYG editor (if you use it correctly).
