    Email auto-script (not auto-responder)?

    Hi,

I would like to implement an email "auto-script" mechanism (as opposed to an auto-responder).

For example, consider the following events:

    1) The code on my webserver sends an automatic email to a subscribed member of my website. (I know how to do this)
    2) The recipient responds with a simple command in the subject field (e.g. "YES" or "NO").
    3) I want a mechanism that can execute the appropriate script on the webserver (e.g. YES.php or NO.php) depending on the email response from the member.

Does anyone know how I can do this? (point 3 I mean). Any links to tutorials/articles gratefully received.

    Thanks,
    Mike.

The only way I can think of to do this is by hooking up SQL Server to an Exchange mailbox. Which is about as difficult, and as much fun, as trying to stab yourself in the eye with both hands tied behind your back.

If you have a SQL Server, and an Exchange mailbox that you can give it to use, then it will do what you want to: you can automatically read and process emails sent to that mailbox. Otherwise, I've no idea. Sorry.

    Lol!

Thanks. I do have both an SQL server and an Exchange mailbox (well I can set up the mailbox). I'll give it a crack ...

    No worries,

I can do it with the PHP IMAP functions and a cron job - its as simple as that!

The devil's not in the doing, it's in the finding out how to do it ...
