    Internet Explorer Splash Pages

    Hey whats up people.

I want to ask a question and see how much input I can get from everybody here..

I'm thinking that once CSS3 is out and Firefox, Opera and all the other popular standards compliant browsers are updated, that IE will be putting out IE7 patches, lol..

    So here's my question:

How do you feel about the idea of using splash pages to give the user an option of viewing your website 'Normally' or a separate 'Internet Explorer version' ?

and perhaps you could even use the splash page to put links to some modern popular browsers..

would it be a wise idea to try and use php to auto-detect the browser and auto-redirect?

I think thats a bad idea. You should be able to design for ALL browsers. If you can't make cross browser designs then maybe web design isn't something you should be doing. Now however if you were going to make a site that used CSS3 kind of like an enhanced site well then fine I guess but I would use some form of server side scripting to detect the browser. The splash page would be a waste of time, and extra steps you can get rid of to get your user to your site faster is worth it.

yeah, right now it would seem pointless to do, but once css3 is out I for one, am not going to let Internet Explorer hold me back from using all those new tools.

I only asked about the splash page cause dont you think, that in the long run if people had splash pages for browser specific pages, IE users would eventually catch on that their browser is outdated and perhaps be tempted to switch?

I get what you're saying and I totally don't mean the discourage you but the problem is that unless enough people start doing it, the impact is going to be low. Of course low is better than none.
